The reservoirs that supply water to Chennai got additional 553 million cubic feet of water on Saturday even though there was only less rain. The storage levels in the reservoirs will provide a big relief to the officials as the storage in lakes were almost dry in the beginning of the month.
The water level in the four reservoirs together stood at 5088 mcft as against 347 mcft in the beginning of the month. The total storage on November 15, 2015 was at 5088 mcft as against the full capacity of 11057 mcft. The total storage was at 2940 mcft on the same day last year.
The Poondi Reservoir which had nearly dried out earlier this month, has now nearly 1626 million cubic feet of water. The level in the reservoir was at 392 mcft last year on the same day. The inflow was still high at 2216 cusecs.
The Chembarambakkam Reservoir has now nearly 1869 million cubic feet of water. The level in the reservoir was at 1279 mcft last year on the same day. The inflow was at a comfortable position of 2784 cusecs.
The Red Hills Reservoir has now nearly 1150 million cubic feet of water as against the level of 1208 mcft last year on the same day. The inflow into the reservoir was at 744 cusecs.
The Cholavaram Reservoir is fast filling up as the storage has crossed the half way mark at 443 million cubic feet of water as against the total storage of 881 mcft. The level in the reservoir was at 61 mcft last year on the same day. The inflow into the reservoir was at 787 cusecs.
With rains / heavy rains predicted for the next 2 days, we expect the reservoirs to reach their full capacity after quite a long time.
