              The storage of water in lakes that supply drinking water to Chennai residents has increased to 1720mcft as of November 11, 2015 due to continuous rains in Chennai and the districts surrounding it (Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur). The combined storage capacity of all the lakes is 11057 mcft. The storage was at 1445mcft on November 10, 2015.
The storage in Chembarambakkam lake was at 885 mcft as against 791mcft on November 10, 2015. The lake's full capacity is at 3645 mcft. The lake was receiving very good inflow of 1159 cusecs due to heavy rains in Kanchipuram district and the outflow was at 71 cusecs.
The storage in Redhills lake has increased to 471mcft as compared to 408mcft on November 10, 2015. The lake's full capacity is 3300mcft. The lake was receiving an inflow of 779 cusecs and outflow of 50 cusecs.
The storage in Cholavaram lake was at 160mcft as against 86mcft on November 10, 2015. The lake's full capacity is 881mcft. There was no outflow from the lake, but it was receiving an inflow of 428 cusecs.
The storage in Poondi reservoir was at 204mcft as compared to 160mcft on November 10, 2015. The lake was receiving an inflow of 525 cusecs and outflow was maintained at 16 cusecs. The reservoir's full capacity is at 3231mcft.
The improvement in storage augurs well for the Chennai citizens, but the capacity of the lakes is still lower than last year's level of 2506mcft on November 11, 2014 as compared to 1720mcft as of today.
