              The storage of water in lakes that supply drinking water to Chennai residents has increased 340mcft in one day due to intermittent rains in Chennai and the districts surrounding it (Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur). The total storage of all the lakes has gone up to 763mcft as of today morning as against the storage of 423mcft on November 8, 2015. The combined storage capacity of all the lakes is 11057 mcft.
The storage in Chembarambakkam lake almost doubled to 508 mcft as against 267mcft on November 8, 2015. The lake's full capacity is at 3645 mcft. The lake was receiving very good inflow of 2839 cusecs due to heavy rains in Kanchipuram district and the outflow was at 50 cusecs.
The storage in Redhills lake has increased to 84mcft as compared to 51mcft on November 8, 2015. The lake's full capacity is 3300mcft. The lake was receiving an inflow of 432 cusecs and outflow of 50 cusecs.
The storage in Cholavaram lake was at 49mcft as against 29mcft on November 8, 2015. The lake's full capacity is 881mcft. There was no outflow from the lake, but it was receiving an inflow of 232 cusecs.
The storage in Poondi reservoir was at 122mcft as compared to 76mcft on November 8, 2015. The lake was receiving an inflow of 543 cusecs and outflow was maintained at 11 cusecs. The reservoir's full capacity is at 3231mcft.
The improvement in storage augurs well for the Chennai citizens, but the capacity of the lakes is just one-third compared to the last year's level of 2518mcft at the same time as compared to just 763mcft as of today.
