A must do bucket-list for Indian travellers during Singapore's 50th birthday
As Singapore gears up to celebrate its 50 years of independence, travellers from around the world are also heading to the island state to enjoy the jubilee weekend, from 7 to 10 August 2015. While Singapore welcomes millions of tourists each year, the second weekend of August is the perfect time to explore the state as it will be centered around massive discounts and freebies that are too good to miss. 1. Entertainment all the way at Marina Bay
Over the jubilee weekend, an array of events and activities are planned at the Marina Bay area. From special performances to art installations and interesting workshops to fun family picnics - the Marina Bay area will keep you well entertained throughout your August visit. The celebrations kicks off with the ComChest Heartstrings Walk 2015 - SG50 Community Heartbeats at Marina Bay on 7 August. The walk will see a multitude of rhythms merging to create a single beat as volunteers and beneficiaries drum in unison towards a single cause. Travellers can also enjoy fun family time at family picnics organised at Marina Barrage and the National Day Parade from Padang to Gardens by the Bay.
2. Crane your necks for the Black Knights air display
August 9 is the National Day Parade where the elite squad of the Singapore Air Force - the Black Knights - will take over the skies to put up a jaw dropping display of aerial stunts. Situate yourself near the Marina Bay platform on the 9th and keep your eyes glued to the skies for those jets followed by fireworks display that is not be missed.
3. Let your hair down - free concerts at the Esplanade
Esplanade is celebrating SG50 in a big way throughout 2015, especially in August. Make your way to the Esplanade Waterfront for free concerts, dance and music performances by Singapore's very own local talent.
4. Experience Singapore's street food culture
Get a taste of traditional Singapore! SG50 Deliciously Singaporean is a travelling street food exhibition being showcased at the National Day Parade's Open House. The multi-cultural cuisine of Singapore is one of its greatest lures during the jubilee weekend. Don't leave without trying out the Chilli Crab, Laksa and Nasi Padang, but if you're craving Indian food, try the Roti Prata and Fish Head Curry.
5. Hot shopping deals!
With wildly exciting flea markets and ultra-chic designer showrooms, Singapore is a shopping paradise. Even if you are not a true shopper at heart, you will definitely find a deal or a trinket which is simply irresistible. Lighten your pockets at Paragon Shopping Centre and at Ion Orchard, where there will be special deals for tourists over the jubilee weekend. Malls will also be offering late night shopping in addition to other schemes.
6. Music and light show at Gardens by the Bay
The very popular Garden Rhapsody music and light show is being given a SG50 makeover. Check out this special edition of the show during your August visit. Gardens by the Bay is also slashing admission rates to the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest by fifty percent. The floral depiction of the Singapore story, organised specially for SG50, is a must see while you are there.
7. Sing50 Concert at National Stadium
Celebrate Singapore's birthday at the National Stadium as several generations of Singapore musicians team up with a couple of international names to set up a phenomenal two hour concert that hopes to draw about 45,000 people. The star studded lineup includes Singapore's Stephanie Sun and JJ Lin, Chinese pianist Lang Lang, American hip hop star Apl.de.ap and Malay rock legend Ramli Sarip.
