GROHE JAL Academy initiates vocational training programme to enhance skill development for plumbers

GROHE JAL Academy, the training workshop incorporated by Grohe AG, has taken an initiative towards enabling 100 more plumbers to enhance their plumbing skills within the next one year. The world's largest single-brand sanitary fittings provider is now in the process of upgrading its technology to make the training more advanced for the plumbers participating in the workshop.

Launched in the year 2009, GROHE JAL Academy, in association with Don Bosco Learning Center is helping needy people to support themselves by providing them with a means to earn a livelihood.

Ms. Renu Misra, VP & MD, Grohe AG commented, "We are extremely pleased with the way we have been able to impart professional training to young people from impoverished backgrounds and plumbers in general which helps them to negotiate a better price in the market. The acceptance and the acknowledgement we have received for this project has motivated us immensely to improve our services and expand the scope of this programme."

He further stated, "We aim at bringing about a positive change in the industry as a whole. The endeavour is to make the industry more organized by training plumbers and upgrading their skills to fit the rapidly growing and changing demands of the market."

Fr. Adolph Furtado, Director, Don Bosco Center for learning, said, "The recent technological advancements in the course curriculum and insertion of more intricate topics like Green plumbing technology, Water saving methods, Mock Shower set up, Pressure-Assist Toilets and Food waste disposers makes the training more pertinent for the plumber community. Introduction of recent programs like Gas Pipe line fitter (plumbing for Gas line) and Building Maintenance technician would further make the learners efficient and trained professionals in every aspect."

He further added, "The Academy's efforts towards enabling advanced training for plumbers have been great so far and we can proudly say that this is one of the best training facilities across the state and the country. We plan to keep upgrading the training further by developing the technology used to impart the same."

The students are being trained in the field of water installation as a two-stage process that comprises the basic plumbing training and subsequently the foreman training. GROHE JAL Academy plans to launch different Modules for different customers.

The training workshop at the Don Bosco Learning Center qualifies young people from extremely poor backgrounds, many of whom have lived in the streets, to become professional plumbers. It gives them the opportunity to start a career as skilled tradesmen so as to financially sustain themselves for the future. This in turn will strengthen the plumbing profession like never before, as these trained professionals are more likely to meet the demands for international standard services by urban Indians.

The Academy has produced more than 567 graduates till date.
