Indian stocks closed higher on Tuesday's session after closing lower on Monday. The Sensex ended the day higher at 19,517.15, up by 137.38 points or 0.71% and Nifty closed at 5780.05, up by 44.75 points or 0.78%. The sentiment looked up after the September HSBC (flash) manufacturing PMI rose to 49.6 from 48.5 in August.
Top gainers during the day's trading were banking, capital goods and realty stocks. The BSE Bankex ended higher at 11,257.05, up by 292.86 points or 2.67%. The NSE Bank Nifty closed up 265.50 points or 2.76% at 9883.30. All the Banking stocks which are part of Bank Nifty closed in the green. Bank of India was the top gainer with the stock closing at Rs. 167.45, up by Rs. 9.50 or 6.01%. Other gainers are Indusind Bank (+4.66%), Axis Bank (+3.98%), ICICI Bank (+3.45%), Canara Bank (+3.36%), HDFC Bank (+3.25%), Yes Bank (+3.24%) and Union Bank (+2.92%). SBI ended higher at Rs. 1,646.50 (+1.96%).
The top gainers in Nifty are DLF (+6.99%), Ranbaxy (+5.90%), Indusind Bank (+4.66%), Axis Bank (+3.98%) and ICICI Bank (+3.45%). The top losers in Nifty are Tata Power (-3.88%), Sesa Goa (-3.18%), NTPC (-2.61%), ONGC (-2.18%) and HUL (-1.82%).
Out of 50 stocks in Nifty, 28 stocks advanced and 22 closed lower. Out of 30 stocks in BSE Sensex, 16 stocks advanced and 14 stocks closed lower.
Indian Markets will be closed for trade on Wednesday (October 2, 2013) on account of Gandhi Jayanthi.
