Nifty closes down 98.90 points at 5302.55 - Microsec

Indian equities plunged on Wednesday after the rupee slipped to a record low of 64.51 against dollar. Metal, oil & gas, realty and FMCG led the sharp fall.

Nifty closed at 5302.55 down by 98.90 points or 1.83% over the previous day closing of 5401.45 after witnessing a low of 5268.45 and a high of 5504.10. Sensex closed at 17905.91 down by 340.13 points or 1.86% over the previous day closing of 18246.04.It touched an intraday low of 17807.19 and high of 18567.70.

The markets' breadth was negative. Out of 2404 stocks traded 886 stocks advanced, 1372 stocks declined and 146 stocks remained unchanged. In Sensex, Out of 30 stocks 05 stocks advanced and 25 stocks declined.

Among the sectors, BSE Metal, BSE Oil & Gas and BSE Realty were the main losers of the day which decreased by 3.63%, 3.52% and 3.34% respectively.

In BSE Metal sector Hindustan Zinc, Sesa Goa and JSW steel prestige decreased by 9.26%, 8.76% and 4.87% respectively. In BSE Oil & Gas sector BPCL, RIL and Cairn India declined by 4.76% 4.72% and 4.23% respectively. In BSE Realty sector Unitech, Indiabulls Real estate and Phoenix Mill Ltd decreased by 7.95% 7.41% and 4.57% respectively.
