Sensex increases 22.42 points to end at 19245.70 - LuvKush Finserve

Markets ended a tad higher after a volatile trading session on Wednesday as anxious investors awaited the outcome of the US Federal Open Market Committee meeting. The Sensex rose 22.42 points to end at 19,245.70 and the Nifty gained 8.65 point at 5,822.25 levels.

The key sectoral gainers included counters such as metal, realty, banks while healthcare, PSU, IT, autos and power indices dropped on the BSE. The gainers included counters such as Tata Steel and Jindal Steel rose nearly 2%, Bharti Airtel gained 2.4%, Hindalco and Sterlite Industries added 2.9%, HDFC and HDFC Bank were up 1% each on the BSE.

The laggards included names like NTPC falling 1.5 %, Hero MotoCorp declined 1.6%, Tata Motors dropped 2.2%, Dr Reddy's was down 1.5% while TCS and Infosys shed 1.5% and 0.3% on the BSE. Shares of frontline non-banking finance companies (NBFC's) like Mahindra and Mahindra Financial Services, Bajaj Finserv, Reliance Capital, L&T Finance Holdings rallied up to 8% in anticipation of getting banking licenses.

The broader markets ended positively with mid-caps and small-caps rising 0.5% each.
