Indian markets closed lower on Monday tracking sell-off in Asian markets triggered by bail out of Cyprus. The monetary policy interest rate decision would be keenly watched out for.
Nifty closed at 5835.25 down by 37.35points or 0.64% over the previous day closing of 5872.60 after witnessing a low of 5814.35 and a high of 5850.20. Sensex closed at 19293.20 down by 134.36 points or 0.69% over the previous day closing of 19427.56.It touched an intraday low of 19232.23 and high of 19345.42.
The markets' breadth was negative. Out of 2969 stocks traded 1091 stocks advanced, 1757 stocks declined and 121 stocks remained unchanged. In Sensex, Out of 30 stocks 06 stocks advanced and 24 stocks declined.
Among the sectors, BSE Metal, BSE PSU and BSE Auto Goods were the main losers of the day, which decreased by 2.34%, 1.64% and 1.44% respectively.
In BSE Metal sector Coal India, NMDC and Sterlite Industries decreased by 5.41%, 4.46% and 2.68% respectively. In BSE PSU sector EIL, BEML and GAIL India declined by 4.83%, 3.41% and 3.16% respectively.
In BSE Auto sector Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto Greaves and Tata Motors decreased by 2.98%, 2.06% and 1.55% respectively.
