Indian Markets trim losses - AXISDIRECT

The markets opened on a soft note and traded sideways till the afternoon session post which they moved lower in the late session but trimmed some of the losses before ending the day marginally lower. Among the sectoral indices Oil & Gas, IT ended more than half a percent lower while Auto & Bankex ended with moderate gains. In the Sensex stocks Tata Motors (2.48%), Tata Power (1.79%) and Bharti Airtel (1.23%) were the gainers while Dr Reddy's (3.55%), Bajaj Auto (1.41%) and Tata Steel (1.21%) were among the losers. The Sensex lost 29 points or 0.15% to close at 19,468 and the Nifty lost 10 points or 0.16% to close at 5,887.

Total traded turnover stood at Rs 143,470 cr. In equities both FIIs were net buyers of (Rs 247 cr ) & DIIs were net sellers of (Rs 246 cr). On the derivatives side, FIIs were net sellers in Index Futures (Rs 744 cr), while they turned net buyers in Stock Futures (Rs 125 cr) Stock Options (Rs 113 cr) Index Options (Rs 720 cr).

The US markets ended mixed as stocks initially gained on positive New York manufacturing activity but disappointing report on industrial production weighed on investor sentiment. The Dow Jones gained 8 points or 0.06% to close at 13,982 and the NASDAQ lost 7 points or 0.21% to close at 3,192.

The Asian markets are trading mixed. Nikkei is trading higher by 2.17% while Hang Seng is trading lower by 0.29%.

Asian markets are trading flat while Japanese markets rallied as the government continued its effort to ease monetary conditions. Indian indices are expected to open on a flattish note and global developments will remain in focus for further direction.
