Indian Markets end flat on Monday - HDFC Securities

The main indices ended flat on Monday ahead of the credit policy to be announced by the RBI on Tuesday. Analysts are divided whether the central bank will finally give in to the finance ministry and cut rates.

While the BSE Sensex closed 0.18pts lower at 20,103.35, the Nifty gained 0.15pts to close at 6,074.8. Broad market indices ended higher as the BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap indices gained 0.02% and 0.27% respectively. Market breadth was positive, as the A/D ratio was 1.22:1 on the BSE. NSE cash turnover was Rs.11,026crs. Vs. Rs.12,915crs. in the previous session.

The sectoral indices ended with a mixed bag. While the top gainers were the BSE Realty, Auto, Bankex and IT indices, the top losers were the BSE Oil and Gas, CD, Capital Goods and Power indices. The biggest gainers from the BSE 30 were Tata Motors, Hero Moto Corp, Hindalco and Sterlite. The biggest losers were ONGC, Reliance, HUL and NTPC.

As per the provisional figures on Friday, FIIs were net buyers of Rs. 784 cr in the cash market, while they were net sellers of Rs. 574 cr in the F&O market. DIIs were net sellers of Rs. 864 cr in the cash market.
