Sensex rises on gains by Bharti Airtel - Microsec

The Sensex rose on Wednesday, led by gains in Bharti Airtel after the company raised call prices, but sentiment remain constrained ahead of key earnings results and an impending central bank's critical decision on interest rates next week. Nifty closed at 6054.30 up by 5.80points or 0.10% over the previous day closing of 6048.50 after witnessing a low of 6021.15 and a high of 6069.80. Sensex closed at 20026.61 up by 45.04 points or 0.23% over the previous day closing of 19981.57. It touched an intraday low of 19920.91 and high of 20058.07.

The markets' breadth was negative. Out of 3039 stocks traded, 817 stocks advanced, 1411 stocks declined and 811 stocks remained unchanged. In Sensex, Out of 30 stocks 16 stocks advanced and 14 stocks declined.

Among the sectors, BSE Teck, BSE Bankex and BSE Capital Goods were the main gainers of the day, which increased by 0.64%, 0.43% and 0.10% respectively.

In BSE Teck sector GTL infra Bharti Airtel Sun TV Network and AnantRaj increased by 8.05%, 4.44% and 3.56% respectively. In BSE Bankex Indusind Bank, Yes Bank and ICICI Bank advanced by 1.51pcent,1.06% and 0.85% respectively. In BSE Capital Goods sector AIA Engrr, L&T and Pipavav Defence increased by 2.28%, 0.57% and 0.45% respectively.
