US markets end lower, Asian markets trading higher - Axis Direct

The markets opened on a flat note and immediately slipped lower but moved towards previous close in the first hour of trade. The markets once again moved lower in the noon trade and gradually recovered in the afternoon session and ended the day with modest gains. Among the sectoral indices Realty and FMCG witnessed buying while selling pressure was seen in Consumer Durables & Metals. In the Sensex stocks ITC (2.18%), HDFC (1.95%) and BHEL (1.42%) were among the gainers while Tata Steel (1.55%), Wipro (1.46%) and L&T (1.45%) were among the losers. The Sensex gained 51 points or 0.26% to close at 19,743 and the Nifty gained 13 points or 0.46% to close at 6,002.

Total traded turnover stood at Rs 146,675 cr. In equities FIIs were net buyers of (Rs 887 cr) while DIIs were net sellers of (Rs 1028 cr). On the derivatives side, FIIs were net buyers in Index Futures (Rs 53 cr), Index Options (Rs 294 cr) while they turned net sellers in Stock Futures (Rs 240 cr) Stock Options (Rs 134 cr).

The US markets ended lower as investors remained cautious amidst companies commencing to report results for the fourth quarter. The Dow Jones lost 55 points or 0.41% to close at 13,329 and NASDAQ lost 7 points or 0.23% to close at 3,092.

The Asian markets are currently trading higher. Nikkei is trading higher by 0.53% while Hang Seng is trading higher by 0.42%.

Asian markets are trading higher as U.S earnings season got off with a positive start and Japanese shares staging a turnaround as the yen headed back down during the session. Indian indices are expected to open on a flat note and global developments along with domestic earning season will be monitored closely for further direction.
