Nifty closes above crucial 6000 mark - Eastern Financiers

Trade on the last day of the week culminated on a flattish note with the Nifty parking above the crucial 6000 mark. Markets however initiated the day in the negative terrain and persisted to trade choppy before it surged marginally in the final hour of trade to shut the shop in green with meager gains of around one tenths of a percent.

Gains were primarily attributed by the surge in Oil & gas sector that impelled on hopes a proposed change in the government's pricing formulas which would boost gas prices. Sensex ended the day with gains of 19.30 points at 19784.08 and the Nifty added 6.65 points with the Index closing at 6016.15.

Broader indices clambered over a quarter percent, outperforming the benchmarks.
