The Canadian International School, Bangalore today successfully held The Terry Fox Run, 2012 at its campus. The Terry Fox Run is an annual non-competitive charity event held in numerous regions around the world in commemoration of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox, and his Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research.
This run is a non-competitive event for the CIS community, their families & friends to get together to raise money for Cancer research in Terry's name. It is a day of celebrating Terry's legacy and helping to keep alive his dream of finding a cure for cancer.
The event is held every year and since its inception and has raised close to $500 million dollars (CAD) via the 'Terry Fox Foundation'. The run itself is informal which means that the distance often varies, usually between 5 and 15 kilometers, where participation is more important than completing the set distance.
"CIS has always believed in contributing to the society. The Terry Fox Run is one such cause which we want to be associated with to highlight the need to join forces to fight cancer," said Ms. Shweta Sastri, Executive Director - Canadian International School, Bangalore.
"Most of us will know someone who has cancer, has survived from cancer, or is still fighting this horrible condition. With organizations like "Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research" we can make a unified effort to give researchers the tools they need to help bring cancer to its' knees. Today the Parents, Students, Staff, and all of the Employees at Canadian International School Bangalore, in a united way, said "Lets' stop cancer from taking so many lives", and we ran, walked, biked, and were pulled in wagons to seek donations for this honorable cause," opined Mr. Allan Villiers, K-8 Principal.
Nithin Tolani (cancer survivor), Kyle Nunas, Consul & Senior Trade Commissioner (South India) and Mr. Vittal Nath - Trade Commissioner, Canadian Trade Office, were the guest speakers.
"It was a very well organized event. I hope to see it grow year after year. Thanks to CIS for all the support," said Nitin Tolani , Cancer Survivor.
