India to host Global Road Safety Meet in Delhi on November 1

About 1000 eminent road safety transportation experts from more than 30 countries will take part in the two day global meet on 'Road Safety in Urban and Rural Roads' being organized by of the India chapter of Geneva based International Road Federation (IRF), the global Body for promoting and advocating safe road developments to be held in capital from November1-2, 2012.

"In wake of recent World Health Organisation (WHO) report that India accounts for more than 10 per cent of the global road accident deaths of 1.3 million (13 lakh) world wide every year, renowned global experts attending the two day meet will discuss ways and means to reduce fatal road accidents especially on urban and rural roads. The Conference, spread over two days, will be addressed by eminent experts in the field of road safety for urban and rural roads, and it will provide a platform for all stakeholders to have interactions, to evolve strategies and action plan to realize improved road safety." Said Mr K.K.Kapila, Chairman, International Road Federation (IRF)

"Some of the subjects that will be discussed during the two day meet will include institutional coordination for road safety, public education on road safety, tackling safety for mixed traffic in urban areas, technology for enforcing road safety, dedicated road safety fund, changes in Motor Vehicle Act, Vehicle Design for safety, Road safety through engineering measures, safety during road operation, safety on high speed corridors, advanced traffic management systems, , intelligent highways and vehicle safety devices.". said Mr Kapila.

"Some of the eminent speakers at the meet will include high officials from Ministry of Road Transport, CII, SIAM, CRRI, Mr R.P.Singh, Chairman,National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Mr Sudhir Krishna, Secretary, Ministry of urban Development, Mr C.Kandaswamy, Director General, Ministry of Roads and Highways, Mr satyendra Garg, Joint Commissioner Traffic, Delhi, Mr V.L.Patankar, ADG, Ministry of Roads, Mr A.K.Upadhyay, Secretary, MoRTH and Road Safety expert Rohit Baluja" said Mr Kapila.

"World wide governments are working on reducing fatal accidents and Europeans countries have been successful, while in developing countries including India fatal road accidents are on constant increase. A session will is also devote itself on road safety in Metro cities including Delhi as maximum number of fatal accidents are taking place in Delhi in the country." Mr Kapila said.

Ministry of Road Transport, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI),Union Ministry for Urban Development, Union Ministry for Rural Development, Delhi Government Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), FICCI, Indian Roads Congress and Delhi government are co-organisers of this meet. A full session and exhibition on road safety will be a major highlight of the conference.
