Bajaj Auto - September 2012 Sales Update - Eastern Financiers

Bajaj Auto persisted to stage murky performance for yet another month marking de-growth of 13.77% which may primarily be attributed to the festive season this year being a month later than it was last year. Even the sagging economic scenario for the sector that is lingering amid sluggish demand displayed a dented performance during September 2012. Bajaj Auto reported sales of 360152 units in September 2012 against sales of 417686 units in the same month last fiscal. The company witnessed de-growth of sales across all the segments.

Though the commercial vehicle sales also were down, Bajaj Auto said that the total sales recorded last month were the second highest for any September. The company could take heart from the fact that the bigger vehicles-Pulsar and Discover brands- accounted for a large chunk of sales during the month.

The commercial vehicle segment continued to witness de-growth of 3.53% this month after tripping 9.85%, 22.63% and 38.89% during the preceding months of August, July and June respectively. The company sold 44838 units of commercial vehicles in September 2012 against 46478 units being sold in the same month last fiscal.

The company reported sharp 15.06% dip in total motorcycle sales that parked at 315314 units being sold in September 2012 against sales of 371208 units in the same month last fiscal. The management however, said that its bigger and sportier Pulsar and Discover models contributed to 64% of the motorcycle sales. The sales of new Pulsar 200 NS were 9,000 units and it sold 35,000 Discover 125 ST units during September.

In the first half of the fiscal 2013, Bajaj Auto sold 2128179 units that was 5.71% lower than 2256952 units being sold during April-September 2011. Commercial Vehicle division witnessed a greater fall of 18.67% to 217032 units compared to 266844 units in the last first six months of the last fiscal. Exports accounted for 8,05,930 units during April-Sept 2012 compared to 8,51,498 units in the same time last year that translated into de-growth of 5.35%.
