TAFE Chief Mallika Srinivasan conferred Doctorate by Hindustan University

Chennai-based Hindustan University, one of the most sought-after engineering institutions in Tamil Nadu, has conferred an honorary Doctorate of Letters (Honoris Causa) on Ms Mallika Srinivasan, Chairperson of TAFE, India's second largest tractor manufacturer. Ms Srinivasan received the doctorate at the university's 3rd annual convocation held at Chennai recently. The citation recognized "her ability to innovate new products and processes, to surmount and transform difficult situations into profitable ones; for her deep commitment to core values of integrity and ethics and her thorough profession."

Prof. K. V. Thomas, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (Independent Charge) was the Chief Guest, who presented the honours. The Degree of Doctorate of Letters was also conferred upon Mr. M. Narendra, Chairman and Managing Director, Indian Overseas Bank.

In her acceptance speech, Ms Srinivasan, dedicated her achievement to the farming community, which serves the nation.

She urged the students to focus on future goals with a positive attitude and hold on to unswerving values to lead them towards the path of excellence.

Hindustan College of Engineering, started in the year 1985, was conferred the "University Status" by University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India Under Section 3 of UGC ACT 1956 from the academic year 2008-09 and under the name HITS (Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science).

Today, Hindustan Institution of Technology and Science is one of the most sought after engineering Institutions in Tamil Nadu, reputed for its highly qualified and experienced faculty, excellent infrastructural facilities and its curricular and extra-curricular activities, vibrant international student community.
