Azim Premji Foundation announced the launch of a new and significantly improved version of the 'Teachers of India' portal – www.teachersofindia.org. The portal is a free and open platform for teachers across the country to hone their professional capabilities and get access to quality teaching aids and digital resources. The Teacher Portal was originally developed by the Foundation in collaboration with the National Knowledge Commission. Since then the Foundation has expanded the portal into a space for teachers to interact, discuss, reflect, create and share academic resources and thus foster an inclusive community of teachers across the country.
The genesis of the portal lies in the need to support the 5.5 million practicing government school teachers of India. These teachers are at the heart of the educational system and are crucial to the success of any effort to improve the quality of education. Quality issues in education are vitally linked to the depth and extent of teacher preparation and academic support. The Teachers of India Portal aims to support teachers in their academic efforts and thus facilitate improvements in teaching and learning. A key feature of the portal is the availability of content in several regional languages. At present these include Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and English.
The Teachers of India Portal:
- Provides teachers and educators with resources, insights and information in education to enhance their pedagogical and content knowledge.
- Enables easy access and delivery of content, greater reach and real-time dissemination of knowledge through technology.
- Recognises the efforts of teachers who have made a difference in the field of education through the 'Spotlight' section.
- Provides a platform for teachers and educators to freely and regularly interact and collaborate outside the formal school environment.
- Provides an open environment for other partner organizations to join and contribute quality education resources.
