Indian Markets subdued - Sensex drifts lower, NIFTY up marginally

Trading in Indian Markets were subdued with the begining of earnings season. NSE S&P CNX NIFTY opened the day at 3848.35 and went on to hit an intraday high of 3876.35 and low of 3844.75 before closing at 3862.65, up by 14.50 points or 0.38%.

Out of 50 stocks in NIFTY, 24 were gainers, 2 remained unchanged and 24 stocks were losers. NALCO was the major gainer in NIFTY with the stock up by 6.86% or Rs.15.90. The stock opened the day at Rs.232 and hit an intraday high of Rs.249 and low of Rs.230.

Suzlon Energy was the second major gainer in NIFTY after the company upped its bid for REpower to Euro 150. The stock jumped by 6.36% to close at Rs.1055.85.

Sterlite Industries Ltd closed higher by 5.99% at Rs.506.85. The stock opened the day at Rs.485 and went on to hit an intraday high of Rs.509.7 and low of Rs.481.50. The total traded quantity was 1949491 with turnover of Rs.9722.31 Lakhs.

Other major gainers in NIFTY include Hindalco - Rs.142.15 (+4.22%), SAIL - Rs.122.75 (+4.20%), Tata Power - Rs.533.20 (+4.05%), Reliance Petroleum Ltd - Rs.74.15 (+3.34%), Tata Steel - Rs.511.50 (+3.21%).

GAIL, BHEL, Bharti Airtel, VSNL, ONGC, Cipla, ITC, IPCL, Bajaj Auto, Dabur, L&T, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, Reliance Industries, Glaxo and Reliance Energy were the other gainers.

Ranbaxy Laboratories was the major loser in NIFTY with the stock drifting lower by 3.41% to Rs.345.70. The stock opened the day at Rs.362.25 and hit an intraday low of Rs.342.70.

BPCL was the second major loser in NIFTY with the stock closing down by 3.13% at Rs.319.05.

Other major losers include, Dr Reddys Laboratories - Rs.699.55 (-2.91%), HPCL - Rs.252.75 (-2.39%), Zee - Rs.264.50 (-2.04%), ACC - Rs.732.45 (-1.99%), HDFC - Rs.1581.85 (-1.56%).

Hindustan Lever, Gujarat Ambuja Cement, Reliance Communication, HDFC Bank, PNB, SBI, HCL Technologies were the other losers in NIFTY.

BSE Sensex opened the day at 13221.76 and went on to hit an intraday high of 13294.90 and low of 13161.21 before closing at 13183.24. Sensex closed down by 6.30 points or 0.05% compared to its previous close of 13189.54.

Out of 30 stocks in Sensex, 14 were gainers and 16 were losers.

Hindalco was the major gainer in Sensex with the stock closing higher by 4.40% at Rs.142.25. Tata Steel was the second major gainer with the stock closing higher by Rs.16.30 or 3.29% at Rs.511.85.

Other gainers include Bharti Airtel, BHEL, Cipla, ONGC, Bajaj Auto, ITC.

Ranbaxy Laboratories was the major loser in Sensex with the stock closing lower by Rs.12.50 or 3.49% at Rs.345.30. Dr Reddys Laboratories was the second major loser with the stock closing lower by 2.59% at Rs.701.25.

Other losers include, ACC, Hindustan Lever, HDFC, Reliance Communication, Gujarat Ambuja Cements, HDFC Bank, SBI, Satyam Computers.
