Indian Markets regaining lost ground - Sensex up 162.19 points NIFTY up 42.6 points

The Indian Markets are regaining their ground after losing nearly 5% on Monday. The Indices of both major stock exchanges NSE NIFTY and BSE Sensex posted gains for the consecutive days. NSE Nifty closed the day at 3733.25, up by 42.6 points. While, BSE Sensex closed at 12786.77 point, up by 162.19 points.

Sensex opened the day at 12691.24 and went on to hit an intraday high of 12835.36 points before closing at 12786.77 points. Sensex never went below the opening mark of 12691.24 points. Out of 30 stocks in BSE Sensex, 21 were gainers and 9 were losers.

HDFC was the major gainer in Sensex with the stock closing the day at Rs.1,497.25 up by Rs.73.30 or 5.15%. NTPC Ltd was the second major gainer with the stock closing up by Rs.6.90 or 4.48% at Rs.160.95. NTPC has gained nearly 10% in the past few trading sessions.

BHEL closed the day at Rs.2,352.90, up by Rs.98.90 or 4.39%. BHEL has been in limelight after the company announce provisional results for the year ending March 31, 2007 on Tuesday.

Dr Reddys Laboratories was another major gainer with the stock closing at Rs.745.65 with a gain of Rs.26.45 or 3.68%. Other major gainers include WIPRO Ltd, Cipla, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel and Reliance.

The losers in Sensex include Hero Honda Motors, Grasim Industries, Maruti Udyog, Satyam Computers, Reliance Communication.

NSE NIFTY opened the day at 3689.75 and went on to hit an intraday high of 3751.40 points. NIFTY closed the day at 3733.25 points, up by 42.6 points or 1.15% compared to its previous close of 3690.65.

Sterlite Industries Ltd was the major gainer in NIFTY with the stock closing up by 8.13% or Rs.35.30 at Rs.469.70. The stock had hit an intraday high of Rs.475.50 and low of Rs.434.40.

HDFC - Rs.1496.90 (+4.92%), Zee - Rs.252.35 (+4.84%), Reliance Petroleum Ltd - Rs.71.80 (+4.82%), BHEL - Rs.2353.70 (+4.37%) were the other major gainers in NIFTY with gains of more than 4%.

Dr Reddys Laboratories, HCL Technologies, WIPRO Ltd, ABB, Cipla were the other major gainers in NIFTY.

Hero Honda Motors Ltd was the major loser in NIFTY with the stock closing at Rs.639.30, down by 2.82%. Other losers include Mahindra & Mahindra, Grasim Industries, Satyam Computers, Maruti Udyog, Hindustan Lever and Reliance Communication.
