              A delegation of Adventure Tour Operators Association today called on Minister of Tourism and Culture Smt. Ambika Soni at her office. The delegation was led by Sh. Ajeet Bajaj who unfurled the Indian Flag at the South Pole on January 26, 2007. Sh. Bajaj has the distinction of becoming the first Indian to ski to the South Pole and North Pole. During their half an hour meeting the delegation members discussed with the Minister ways and means to promote the adventure tourism in the country with special emphasis on mountaineering.
Smt. Soni said Adventure Tourism activity in the country has reached a high level of participation. The Ministry accordingly issued a set of safety guidelines covering adventure activities that are land, air and water based. These guidelines addressed issued of not only merely the safety of the tourists but also the quality of the adventure experience. It also addresses the issues of minimizing impacts on the fragile environment in which these activities are generally conducted.
Sh. Ajeet Bajaj, who came back from the South Polar expedition in February 2007, said after the meeting that it is the spirit of adventure in him that has taken him to all these remote inhospitable terrains.
