B Thiagarajan elected President of Refrigeration and Airconditioning Manufacturers' Association

B Thiagarajan, President, Airconditioning & Refrigeration Products Group, Blue Star Limited has been elected as the President of the Refrigeration and Airconditioning Manufacturers' Association (RAMA) on February 24, 2012. This appointment is for a two-year period.

RAMA is the apex forum of the industry leaders and representatives of major manufacturers including MNCs in the Refrigeration and Airconditioning industry in India.

RAMA is affiliated to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Given the poor penetration levels, the market potential for airconditioning and refrigeration products in India is huge; and RAMA plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the industry not only grows at a high rate, but also delivers globally competitive products and services.

While thanking the members of RAMA for assigning the responsibility to head the Association, Mr Thiagarajan states that there are five important initiatives which RAMA would pursue on priority. These are,

- Working closely with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency to take the Energy Labelling Programme to next phase of implementation.

- Working closely with the Ozone Cell of the Ministry of Environment & Forests in the HCFC Refrigerant Phase-out programme in line with Montreal Protocol.

- Establishing Testing Standards for various Central Airconditioning equipment in close collaboration with Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Airconditioning Engineers (ISHRAE).

- Working with the Union Government to get the issues pertaining to Taxation and other related issues for the benefit of the growth of the Industry.

- In line with the "Inclusive Growth" objectives and in order to generate large scale employment, working with all the stakeholders in skill development in the area of airconditioning and refrigeration.

In his capacity as President, Airconditioning & Refrigeration Products Group in Blue Star, Mr Thiagarajan handles Packaged Airconditioning, Room Airconditioners, Refrigeration Products, Cold Storages and Airconditioning & Refrigeration Service apart from being responsible for Corporate Communications & Marketing and Public Relations.

Mr Thiagarajan holds many important portfolios in industrial associations and is also a Member of National Council of Agriculture of CII, Chairman of the CII National Task Force on Cold Chain Development and Executive Committee Member of Indian Green Building Council.
